Lyrics to 'Double Crossed Heart'

(1)  IF YOU COULD CHOOSE    ©2017 Sandy Craig

V1

If you could choose between what is, and what should be,

Would you do it all over the same, from A to Z,

Or would you take a left turn at the fork in the road,

Where the right turn would lead you to me,

If you could choose between what is, and what should be.

V2

If you could go back and patch all the hearts that you broke,

Would you re-do all of your dreams that went up in smoke,

Or would you find that dirty dog who done you wrong,

Make him beg mercy please,

If you could choose between what is, and what should be.

Br:

Sometimes there’s no second chance,

You better get it right the first time,

Are you a victim of circumstance,

Does your destiny depend on the flip of a silvery dime.

Instr:

V3

If you could do it all over, from day one,

Would you give it all up to live like a monk or a nun,

Or would you take your dusty old wings and fly,

Into the blue mystery,

If you could choose between what is, and what should be.

What is and what should be…

(2)  BEST THING YOU’LL EVER FIND © 2017 Sandy Craig

V1:

WELL IT’S THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE DAY WE MET,

I WAS THINKING YOU WERE GONNA FORGET,

BUT THERE YOU WERE, WITH FLOWERS FROM THE GROCERY STORE,

YOU GAVE THE FLOWERS TO ME, THEN YOU GOT ON ONE KNEE, I WAS SURE THAT FINALLY,

YOU WERE GOING TO ASK ME TO BE YOURS FOREVER MORE…

[PRE-]

I WAS READY TO SAY YES, I WAS PICTURING MOMMA’S LONG WHITE DRESS,

UNTIL I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW THAT YOU WERE ONLY, TYING YOUR SHOE….

CHO:

YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE, NOW IT’S TOO LATE,  HOW LONG AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT, FOR YOU TO GET OFF THE FENCE AND MAKE UP YOUR MIND….

YOU WANNA PLAY HOUSE BUT IT AIN’T THE SAME, AS A PROMISE MADE WITH A WEDDING RING, SOMEDAY YOU’LL SEE I WAS THE BEST THING YOU’LL EVER FIND…

V2:

I WAITED SO LONG FOR YOU TO COMMIT, BUT IT’S PLAIN TO SEE YOUR HEART AIN’T IN IT, MAYBE YOU’RE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ONE TO GIVE IT TO, NOW  I’M STEPPIN ON THE GAS, AND THE GRAVEL’S FLYING,

LOOKING BACKIN IN THE MIRROR, YOU’RE STANDING THERE TRYING,

TO FIGURE IT OUT, BUT YOU STILL AIN’T GOT A CLUE….

INSTR:

BR:

WE BEEN ON A 5 YEAR DATE, FOR YOU I GUESS THAT’S JUST FINE

NOW IT’S GETTING KIND OF LATE, AND I AIN’T WASTING NO MORE TIME…

[INSTR.]

I’M STEPPIN ON THE GAS, THE GRAVEL IS FLYING

LOOKING BACK IN IN THE MIRROR, YOU’RE  STANDING THERE TRYING,

TO FIGURE IT OUT, YOU STILL AIN’T GOT A CLUE….

CHO:

YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE, NOW IT’S TOO LATE,  HOW LONG AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT, FOR YOU TO GET OFF THE FENCE AND MAKE UP YOUR MIND….

YOU WANNA PLAY HOUSE BUT IT AIN’T THE SAME, AS A PROMISE MADE WITH A WEDDING RING, SOMEDAY YOU’LL SEE I WAS THE BEST THING YOU’LL EVER FIND, SOMEDAY YOU’LL SEE I WAS THE BEST THING YOU’LL EVER FIND.

(3)  Born To Be In The Air               © 2017 Sandy Craig

V1:

Engines fire up one by one, kickin’ that beautiful sound,

Runway below blue sky above, wheels off of the ground,

Turning into the rising sun, climbing up through the clouds,

Out to Dallas on a turn around run, back before the sun goes down…

CHO:

Down below it moves so slow, just getting through the day,

On the ground I just spin around, waiting to go back up again,

Most people don’t really like to fly, they’re just going somewhere,

You and I we’re a different kind, we were born to be in the air…

Instr:

V2:

A little kid with a toy airplane, holding it up to the sky,

Even then all I wanted to do was put on some wings and fly,

CHO:

Down below it moves so slow, just getting through the day,

On the ground I just spin around, waiting to go back up again,

Most people don’t really like to fly, they’re just going somewhere,

You and I we’re a different kind, we were born to be in the air…

You and I we’re a different kind...We were born to be in the air…

(4)  Lexie Loo                         © 2017 Michael Howard

V1:

Little Lexie Wingnut, ridin’ lone across the desert, she got her whole life in her Lexus, ‘cept her cat waitin’ back in Texas, and she’s, headed for the next adventure and passing every exit,

Little Lexie…

V2

Little Lexie Loo I wouldn’t change one thing about you, you reminded me of what I always knew, I’ll do me, you do you, If we meet again I’ll make you breakfast, kiss your face and fix your necklace, don’t forget these hands are here for you, little Lexie Loo…

Pre:

And I know you’ll slay them, I know you’ll knock them dead,

Utah already wants you back, I’ll wager California’s next, and all the way from Denver, I hear Austin breathin’ down your neck…

Inst:

V3:

Little Lexie Lay you’re so far away, it would take my truck a couple days, but I know right now I’ve gotta stay, I could fly there on your smile, I could swim there through your laugh, once my head hits the pillow, all these miles disappear so fast…

V4:

Little Lexie Wingnut, ridin’ lone across the desert, she got her whole life in her Lexus, ‘cept her cat waitin’ back in Texas, and she’s, headed for the next adventure and passing every exit,

She’s, crossing off another state, touching herself to stay awake,

there’s no mistake she could ever make..Except to question her own direction, little Lexie Loo…

Instr:

Repeat:

(5)  Whole Lotta Nope                         © 2017 Sandy Craig/Lauren Michaels

V1:

Last night you sent me a midnight text, lately you’ve sent quite a few, and I knew what was coming next, ‘cuz I’ve heard it all before from you… You’re wondering if I’ve changed my mind, maybe we can give it one more try, asking me if you should hold on and hope, well that’s a whole lotta nope…

Cho:

Well you get drunk and you’re all alone, you think of me and pick up your phone, start typing like you’re desperate at the end of your rope…Nope, nope, well that’s a whole lotta nope…

Instr:

V2:

We had a good thing for a little while, until it came to blows, and all of your drama just ain’t my style, now you just can’t seem to let go…I got your calls on my phone recorder, guess I oughta get a restraining order, cuz you’re still sending me little love notes,

that’s a whole lotta nope..

Cho:

Well you get drunk and you’re all alone, you think of me and pick up your phone, start texting ‘til your little thumbs are broke… Nope, nope, well that’s a whole lotta nope…

Nope, nope, well that’s a whole lotta nope…

(6)  Black Widow Of Omaha                         © 2017 Sandy Craig

V1:

Jesse had a cattle ranch, high up on the divide,

He built him a house out of Ponderosa logs,

Then one day, he sent away, for a mail order bride,

She looked so fine in the catalog,

He rode down, and he picked her up from the train,

They sat together on the front porch, in the rain…

V2:

Her name was Rita, and she settled in real quick,

She always looked at Jesse with a funny little smile,

She was there beside him on the day he took sick,

She kept his medicine in a little vial,

After the funeral she made sure all the cows had grain,

And with the deed to the ranch, she got back on that train…

Cho:

Rita went on back home to Omaha,

A broken hearted widow was all anybody saw

She put the title to the ranch in a little wooden chest,

Then she ran another ad in a paper out west…

V3:

Billy was a miner, he’d finally hit the mother lode,

He just wanted someone to share his lucky life,

He answered Rita’s ad and down, to the station he rode,

In his very best clothes to meet his new wife,

He looked at Rita through the station window pane,

On two white horses, they rode home in the rain

V4:

Their first night together, Billy gave her a ring,

Time went on, and he showed her all his gold,

When the midnight icepick in the ear came, Billy didn’t feel a thing,

It must have been a stroke, is how the story was told,

After the funeral, she put her ring on a chain,

And with a big box of gold, she got on the train…

Cho:

This time Rita got off the train in Omaha,

She walked right into the arms of the waiting law,

She thought she’d covered her tracks, oh so well,

But they put it all together, and put her in a cell…

V5:

With a hangin’ judge presiding, they had an airtight trial,

Turned out Rita had been busy for many years,

Rita looked up at the judge, with a funny little smile,

Then came a tree and a rope, and a few more tears,

To this day they still say, it was the damnedest thing they ever saw,

And that’s the story of Rita, the Black Widow of Omaha…

(7)  Love At First Sight                         © 2017 Sandy Craig

V1:

Ever since that first time I saw you, I ain’t been the same,

Wherever you go I would follow, and I don’t even know your name,

All it took was one look, and I fell into your eyes, a feeling this strong must be true…

This time is different, this time you ain’t gonna get by, it’s love at first sight, did you feel it too…

Love at first sight, and you felt it too…

V2:

Omigod there you are again, just like yesterday,

but now you’re talking to another girl, and you won’t even look my way,

I had it all figured out, the way it’s gotta be, ‘cuz that other girl’s no good for you…

No sense fightin’ it boy, it’s only you for me, we got something special, do you feel it too…

Love at first sight and you felt it too…

Instr:

V3:

Well I believe in destiny, and I believe in fate,

I’ll give you what’s left of me, I swear it’s not too late,

We got a perfect love, without all the messy details…

I knew it when I saw you cross the visitor’s room,

And I’ll come and find you boy, when I get out of jail,

‘Cuz I could it in your eyes that you want me too…

It’s love at first sight and you felt it too

Love at first sight, and you felt it too..

(8)  Colorado Blue                         © 2017 Sandy Craig

V1:

Well there’s a mountain, in the middle of Colorado,

her name is Antero, and there’s a treasure that she holds…

and on that mountain, you’ll find those fearless miners,

modern day forty-niners, they’re not looking for gold…

Cho:

Colorado blue, aquamarines,

pure and clear as a Rocky Mountain stream,

the color of the sky, from over two miles high,

Colorado blue aquamarines…

V2:

You know that mountain, she can kill you without trying,

leave your widow home a crying, there’s a dozen ways to die…

high above the tree line, there ain’t no place to hide, from the thunder and the rockslides and the lightning in the sky…

Cho:

Colorado blue, aquamarines,

pure and clear as a Rocky Mountain stream,

the color of the sky, from over two miles high,

Colorado blue aquamarines…

Instr:

V3:

Now that mountain, she don’t give the prize up easy, spend your life down on your knees digging holes in the rocky ground…
but if you’re lucky, you’ll come down off that mountain, you’ll be smiling and a counting the blue crystals that you found…

Cho:

Colorado blue, aquamarines,

pure and clear as a Rocky Mountain stream,

the color of the sky, from over two miles high,

Colorado blue aquamarines…

(9)  Las Vegas Lights                         © 2017 Sandy Craig

V1:

We hit town as the sun went down,

Station wagon riding low to the ground,

We’d never seen such a beautiful sight,

Felt like we finally got it right…

Our heads full of snow, our eyes full of stars,

Kids a sleepin’ in the back of the car,

The hard times, they all fell behind,

We were blinded by the bright Las Vegas lights….

V2:

Well I got a job down at the race track,

He got a job too, dealing black jack,

Quitting time and breaks in between,

He always put a few in the slot machines….

Sure enough he got lucky one day,

Hit triple sevens on a ten times pay,

He took his money right on out of there,

Got on a plane for who knows where…

Cho:

Summer time in the city of liars,

Sidewalk so hot it set your shoes on fire,

All you can do is wait for the night,

And make your big score…

Under the Las Vegas lights…

Instr:

V3:

Well I don’t blame him one damn bit,

I’ll do the same thing if I ever hit,

I know he’s doing all right,

Far away from these bright Las Vegas lights…

Cho:

Summer time in the city of liars,

Sidewalk so hot it set your shoes on fire,

All you can do is wait for the night,

And make your big score…

Under the Las Vegas lights…

(10)  Love Is A Beautiful Thing                         © 2017 Sandy Craig

V1:

Love is a beautiful thing, wait that’s not what I mean,

Love burns like gasoline, leaves your ashes on the floor…

Tell the truth it’ll set you free, it didn’t go so well for me,

Truth is something that I never see, until it walks out the door…

Cho:

Love will conquer anything, if you love him set him free,

He’ll come back if it’s meant to be ‘cuz, love conquers anything…

That’s what I used to believe, when love was a beautiful thing…

V2:

Build a house with time and trust, keep it shiny don’t let it rust,

Watch it blow away in the dust, while you bleed out in the dark…

Have a nice life I wish you well, pretty flowers and ringing bells,

What I really mean is go to Hell, and take what’s left of my double crossed heart…

Refr:

I found a box of our old pictures, I took ‘em for a nice long drive,

One by one I dropped them in the river, waiting for that big yellow moon to rise….

Instr:

Cho:

Love will conquer anything, if you love him set him free,

He’ll come back if it’s meant to be ‘cuz, love conquers anything…

That’s what I used to believe, when love was a beautiful thing…

(11)  WILD AS THE WIND IN WYOMING                             © 2017 Sandy Craig

V1:

Well I met her in a truck stop up in Rawlins, She had her hair tied back and an apron ‘round her hip, I forgot all about the load I was haulin’,

She had me wrapped around her finger tip,

She said she always wanted to see Denver,

This small town life just wasn’t any fun,

She threw her apron on the floor, and we walked out the door,

She hopped into my cab and rode shotgun…

V2:

We laughed and sang all the way across I-80, ‘Til we finally saw the bright lights of Cheyenne, I knew I’d finally found my special lady,

And I was feeling like a brand new man,

We turned South on into Colorado,

I was thinking ‘bout parking this rig and settlin’ down,

But we pulled off I-25 her eyes they got big and wide,

She said I can’t wait to tear up this cow tow…

Cho:

Well she’s wild as the wind in Wyoming,

She blew right through me and then she knocked me down,

Heaven knows that I tried, to keep her satisfied,

But all she wants to do is tear up this cow town…

Instr:

V3:

Well I tried to give her everything she fancied,

I let her buy nice clothes and jewelry, but she’s out every night going dancing, comes home at dawn, smelling like a brewery,

I guess I need to make a hard decision,

‘Cuz her wicked ways have really got me down,

This ain’t what I signed up for, I can’t take it anymore,

I never should have brought her to this cow town…

Cho:

Well she’s wild as the wind in Wyoming,

She blew right through me and then she knocked me down,

Heaven knows that I tried, to keep her satisfied,

But all she wants to do is tear up this cow town…

(All I want to do is tear up this cow town)

Yeah I never should have brought her to this cow town

(12)  Misery And Gin                              © 1980 - Garrett/Durrill

V1:

Memories and drinks don't mix too well

And jukebox records don't play those wedding bells

Looking at the world through the bottom of a glass

All I see is a girl who's fadin' fast.

V2:

Tonight I need that man again

What I'd give for my baby to just walk in

Sit down beside me and say it's alright

Take me home and make sweet love to me tonight.

Cho:

But here I am again mixing misery and gin

Sittin' with all my friends and talkin' to myself

I look like I'm havin' a good time but any fool can tell

That this honky tonk heaven really makes you feel like hell.

Instr:

V3:

I light a lonely cowboy’s cigarette

We start talkin' bout what we want to forget

His life story and mine are the same

We both lost someone and we only have ourselves to blame

Cho:

But here I am again mixing misery and gin

Sittin' with all my friends and talkin' to myself

I look like I'm havin' a good time but any fool can tell

That this honky tonk heaven really makes you feel like hell.

Repeat:
